A multi-playwright project doubles down on collaboration, asking us to find ways to echo or respond, contrast or amplify images offered within the writing group.
— Augusta Supple

In November, I was invited to PLAY PARRAMATTA.

Held at WestWords over a weekend, I was one of 8 writers from across literary modes who were shepherded, inspired and stretched by Creative Director Augusta Supple to write a new play together.

It was a fast and furious development process — challenging, invigorating and heaps of fun, thanks to the talent and generosity in the room: Luke Carman, Jelena Curic, Chris Fleming, Katy-May Hudson, Peter Maple, Paris Rosemont and Christopher Sammut, with support from Michael Campbell.

On Saturday we selected sites to visit, wrote in situ, and had lunch next to The Roxy. When the rain came, our adventure to the river was curtailed and we returned to home base to write in chorus, duets, solo and as an orchestra.

We returned on Sunday to write some more, while Augusta consolidated and began deftly assembling scenes. At 4pm on Sunday we did a round table reading of the beautiful full-length multi-headed baby we had just that minute birthed. An exhausting, surprising and immensely satisfying process.

Thanks for letting me play!
