Write compelling stories drawn from real life

This course is the perfect introduction to creative nonfiction writing. Held over 6 weeks, these workshops guide you to develop five short stories and experiment with different styles.

Discover the material in your life that calls you to write about it while learning the elements of good storytelling. You’ll unpack your writing fears, explore how to approach truth-telling in creative ways and learn practical tips from an experienced writer.

Along with readings and discussion, each week you’ll have the chance to workshop your writing in a supportive space. Classes are kept small to ensure everyone receives individual feedback from Adrienne.

By the end of the course, you will have made valuable connections with other creatives, and gained the confidence and tools needed to keep writing.

Course Outcomes

  • Weekly exercises to unlock your ideas, with feedback on 5 stories.

  • Readings and discussions of some fine creative nonfiction pieces.

  • Practical exploration of different techniques across memoir, personal narrative, travel writing, literary journalism and more.

  • Achieve more clarity and form in your writing.

  • Understand how to make your true stories shimmer and speak to others.
